Flourless Chocolate Orange Cake

I don’t like chocolate.

I definitely don’t like orange chocolate.

I’m not a great fan of cakes.

And yet, when my super talented 11 year old nephew arrived with this Chocolate Orange Cake for our New Years Eve party, I was smitten.

It’s not too heavy or sweet and has an almost fudgy consistency, and best of all it only has 7 ingredients and is SUPER easy to make. It was a big hit when I made it for my book club last week.

So thank you Harry, you’re a little star ⭐️

It’s from Nigella Lawson’s book Feast

2 Medium Oranges

6 Eggs

1 Teaspoon of Baking powder

1/2 Teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda

200g of ground almonds

250g Caster Sugar

50g of Cocoa

Place the oranges in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil and simmer, covered, for about two hours, until soft.

Place the oranges, peel, pith and all into a food processor and blitz to a pulp.

Add all the rest of the ingredients and whiz until you have a cake mixture (2/3 minutes)

Pour into a spring form cake tin ( 20cm) or a similar sized silicone cake tin.

Bake at 180 for between 45 minutes and an hour. Mine only took 45 minutes in a fan oven so watch carefully from that point on.

Allow to cool in the tin, turn out and dredge with icing sugar and decorate with orange peel.

  1. Oh, I have this book and love it. I’m not a fan of chocolate and orange together but I think you might have convinced me 😉
